Business Casual or Something

This semester, I'm taking a training class for a potential job through the school district's career center. Because we are training to (hopefully) be hired at the end of the school year, there's a dress code. Mondays are casual. Tuesdays are business casual. Wednesdays are professional dress. Thursdays are employer issued uniforms.

This would be all fine and dandy if I actually owned a pair or two of dress pants.

Or if I wasn't too cheap to go out and buy dress pants.

Or if we didn't get sixteen inches of snow this weekend before temperatures dropped down to 10 degrees.

Still, it does mean I actually wear my dresses.

Sometimes, I don't like my face. Here, look at my hair. Wait, I'm not super excited about this half red/half brown color.

Fine. You can look at my face.

Nevermind. Just look at my room. See that classy Target bag?

No, I was not comfortable by any stretch.

But I felt fricken adorable.

I Got Fat.

I got out of the shower a few days ago, humming Taylor Swift and generally minding my own business, when a monstrous white whale trapped inside my mirror captured my attention.

Okay, so maybe I'm exaggerating just a tiny bit.

In full honesty, I was doing my once over fresh out of the shower and I've definitely "let things go". I will probably piss people off if I say that I'm fat, because I'm still wearing my size 5 jeans I was wearing when I was dancing.

The difference? Oh I could go on for days.

For one, I'm tired all the time. There is no real difference between seven hours of sleep or eleven hours of sleep.

Next, I'm grumpy. Something about never pushing my body to exert itself, reducing the release of endorphins really puts a damper on my overall mood.

The worst part? I have cellulite. Guys. I'm seventeen years old. I HAVE CELLULITE AND IT'S REALLY NOT OKAY ON ANY LEVEL.

The texture of my rear end skin resembling that of a bleached orange peel may or may not have been my breaking point.

My gut reaction was to text Rora. After some discussion, we have come to a conclusion. Between her sister's wedding and my graduation ceremony, neither of us are allowed to get fat. What's more, both of us need to be healthy. Since I'm horrible at finishing projects, I suggested we blog about the process in order to keep us accountable. Rora agreed.

I spent the weekend planning my workout schedule and setting what I hope are reasonable goals. I started my workouts yesterday. I may or may not have finished the workout laying in my bed for a good hour trying not to vomit. I'll be posting weekly(-ish) on my progress.

I still need to do today's workout. I think I'm going to let my dinner settle a bit more first.

Oh, one last thing.

My pathetic excuse for a "before" shot:

Basketball shorts don't show love handles. It's great.

Don't Be A Bum

When the topic of clothing and dressing comes up, I am under the impression that it means different things to different people. For some people, getting dressed is this monumental events sucking exorbitant amounts of time and money. For others, clothing serves only as a shield against the elements. I like to think that each person has their own philosophy regarding the material we cover our backs with. Today, I'm going to share my own personal clothing philosophy and as well as why it's right and everyone should agree with me.

Once upon a time, my boyfriend sent me a link to this blog post. Your eyes probably just glazed for half a second while you gagged at the idea of having to put even more effort into actually reading words, but you should read it, especially the young women reading this.

Have you read it yet? Cool. Moving forward.

Now, the point of view that I was reading the article under was initially a bit clouded. Cut me some slack. My boyfriend tells me to read an article to read an article advising the general female population to actually put effort into their appearance everyday. I didn't exactly take it kindly. But that's a different story. Anyways, once I was done pouting, I read the article again, trying to understand the point the author was making.

What I took away from the article was this: Because men are such visual creatures, it is an act of charity for us as women to take care of ourselves and dress nicely. When we choose not to do such, we lose the right to complain that we're single or our significant others don't love us or any of that.

On a whole, I completely agree. *braces self for onslaught of feminist criticism* But, I think it goes much farther than that. As much as we like to think that we're these nice virtuous creatures who give strangers the benefit of the doubt and don't judge, but new flash, we most definitely are not. What you wear and how you groom yourself is in the first three things any stranger will notice about you, if not the first. You could argue that you give the impression of being materialistic and self centered by dressing in a fashion-forward manner. Sure, dressing like Snooki probably isn't a good plan, but that only proves there's extremes on both ends of the spectrum.

Dressing like a hobo gives the impression you are too lazy to take care of yourself or invest in decent apparel. Or it people just think you're a hobo, also not a great plan.
Dressing like a whore gives the impression that you're easy, you don't understand the proper application of self tanner, and your boobs are probably fake.
Dressing out of your age group gives the impression of immaturity, even if you're dressing older than you actually are. Sure, ugly Christmas sweaters can be worked into a flattering look in the cold months and I've seen twenty-somethings rock pigtails, but dressing like your grandma or your 8 year old sister is a no-no.

It's really just common sense. You dress to support the image you are trying to project. You do so in an aesthetically pleasing manner as a courtesy to those around you.

Now, some of you are probably staring at the screen thinking, "Yeah, I'll look nice for school/work/church functions/important things, but surely she doesn't mean this has to be an everyday thing." Wrong. Ladies and gentlemen, please don't be the scary person wandering through the grocery store in bunny slippers, two day old make up, and no bra. Please, I beg of you. You are better than that. Plus, the odds of running in to someone you know/have to suck up to sky rockets when you decide to wear the burka-eqsue pajama pants to run your errands.

Again, I'm not saying you have to make a fashion show out of putting the gas in the car, but there are lines you don't cross outside of your living room.

If you get your boobs out (ex: form fitting, sleeveless, low cut, or detail top), you put your legs away.
If you get your legs or butt out (ex: form fitting or above-the-knee skirts and pants) you put your boobs away.
You shave your legs when wear a skirt without stockings.
You always wash your face, brush your teeth, apply deodorant, and brush your hair.
Makeup of some sort is kind of expected. No need to resemble a Mary Kay model, but some powder, some mascara, and some lip gloss covers all the bases.
No sweat pants, unless they're NICE sweat pants. Please differentiate between nice sweat pants and not nice sweatpants. I suggest investing in a pair of yoga pants and a pair of leggings and saving those for the days jeans and shaving seem like the end of the world.
Apply self tanner and blue eye shadow with extreme caution.
When in doubt, cover more skin.
If you show rolls of skin, it's too tight or you're not covering enough.

It shouldn't feel like you're following rules to gain acceptance, because that would be shallow and a waste of energy. Dressing decently is simply a a form of polite behavior demonstrated to those you interact with through the day. Nothing more, nothing less.

Okay, so maybe some days, it IS a little more, but you get my point.

Now, to prove my point, my outfit when I honestly didn't feel like looking nice at all.

I didn't do fancy make up. Just primer, eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss. I didn't even bother to curl my hair, but I did make sure my bangs didn't dry in a strange manner.

I wore my "sexy" jeans. Sure, they aren't comfortable, but they compensate for the fact my boyfriend's hoodie, while extremely comfortable, is not the most flattering thing on me.

Have a made my point? Good.

Messy Monday

It's Monday. I don't really try on Mondays, but someone insisted I post.

Yoga pants because I'm going to spend all day holding babies and studying anatomy. Blue sweater because I  like blue. The scarf I made just so I can show it off. Fuzzy socks because it's cold. Quickly curled hair. Simple make up. The friendship bracelet I literally haven't taken off in six weeks. When I leave, I'll add knock off Uggs. It works for me.

Long Time, No Post

So, it's been a while. I'm not even going to try to explain or provide excuses. I'm not going to promise on a regular basis. Just know that I'm posting.

I had intentions of posting pictures every day last week as I wore something super adorable everyday last week, except Tuesday. But even that was pretty cute.

As you can tell, that didn't happen.

I did manage to get pictures on Monday.

Enjoy.

What happens when I try.

Technically, this is yesterday's outfit but I was kinda busy between dance, Bri's recital, and babysitting, so I didn't get a chance to post. I was going to post what I wore today as well, but my little brother decided to hide my camera until about two hours after I had changed into sweats. Let's just say Sunday clothes are not the most comfortable.

White Tee: Thrifted
Jeans: Miss Me, thrifted
Black Blazer: Thrifted
Blue and White Scarf: Christmas present from Beka (:

And there was great rejoicing.

GUESS WHAT!!! Das right. Finals are done for this chic. I got in the shower and said, "I'm gonna wear a skirt today" but by the time I got to my closet, I decided I hate every skirt I own. But seeing that it was 50 degrees and sunny and I had shaved my legs, I figured shorts would be a good compromise.
I need new shorts.
Please excuse the crappy editing. I'm trying new software as Picnik has closed, and I haven't quite figured it out yet.

Le Finals Bum Chic

No. I didn't do my make up. Yes, I'm wearing fat jeans just so I don't have to bother putting on a belt. Yes, my hair is, in fact, in a messy bun straight out of the shower. Yes, my room is a pit. Yes, I just look so attractive (sarcasm intended, Sabrina). But guess what. It's finals week. It is my privilege to look like a bum and rock it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go study for my government final.

Navy long sleeve tee: Abercrombie and Fitch
Jeans: American Eagle
Scarf: Forever 21
Fuzzy Socks: I don't know. I've had them since I was, like, ten.

Tuesday, April 24

I started trying and then gave up.

Yes, I realize I haven't posted in like eight months. After spending three days reading blogs of people who post pictures of their outfits, the mood struck me.
I did my make up and half attempted to do my hair. Then I decided more effort just wasn't worth it when I spilled coffee on the first shirt I put on. Lazy-"I totally just rolled out of bed looking this sexy beast" look it is!

Oh Picnik. How I miss you.

T-shirt: Costco, I stole it from my brother
Jeans: Gap
Belt: Value Village

I drove a bunch(after the nausea passed, of course).
